Dental Distress and Gilligan’s Island In Space: ODO 176

How was your Valentine’s Day? Mine went well enough. That is, until our son knocked one of his teeth out. But that didn’t stop us from buying all of the kids bikes only 2 days later. Never mind that none of them knew how to ride one. Speaking of hilarious situations, this week’s Recommended Listening feature is going to another sci-fi disaster comedy audio drama. I’m talking about Oz-9.

Practical Valentine’s Chores: ODO 175

It’s Valentine’s Day! For some it’s a time to get romantic and maybe shower your significant other with gifts. For me, it’s kinda complicated. First off I have no clue what to get my wife. All of the standard gifts either wont work or are too expensive. That and I’m just too financially practical to justify spending the money for a lot of things.

Then I get into my kids’ outright refusal to clean their bedrooms, even to the point of doing other chores that they aren’t responsible for, just so they don’t have to do the ones that they are.

Finally, another founding member of the Podfix network has announced their ending. We’re saying goodbye to “Weird With You.”

ODO 93: Hearts, Hoops, And A Whole Lot Of Stupid

Happy Valentine’s Day! My wife made me not only buy her a gift, but have it delivered to her at work. She also bought me a gift when I told her not to, so I guess we’re even. We had a great family trip to see the World Championship Hoop Dancing competition in Phoenix this weekend, and everyone had a blast. I took a poll to crown the “Jackass of the Week.” Finally, since I seem to be throwing format out the window this month, I chat about the upcoming Sunshine Summit 2018 being put on by Heather from Sunshine and PowerCuts.

We also spent our weekend enjoying the music and dancing at the Heard Museum for the 28th Annual World Championship of Hoop Dancing.

  • Man appeals DWI conviction claiming that the blood-alcohol level test discriminates against alcoholics.

After his fourth DWI conviction, a man is appealing his case claiming that using a simple blood-alcohol level test for arrests discriminates against alcoholics who have a higher tolerance for alcohol. He insists that because alcoholics have a higher alcohol tolerance, their driving ability is not as impaired by the lower legal limit and they should not be subject to the same regulations.

Suspected poacher in South Africa gets eaten by lions.

The head and some innards of a n unknown man were found in a game hunting preserve in South Africa, seemingly eaten by a pride of lions. Near the remains was a loaded hunting riffle. That combined with park officials not recognizing the man lead them to believe he was a poacher in the park.

ODO 49: I Suck at Valentine’s

I Suck at Valentine’s

Valentine’s Day is here so I’ve committed to focusing the entire episode on the holiday. The problem with that is, in a very general way, I’m no good at Valentine’s.

It’s not that I am not romantic. The problem comes mostly in that I’m too practical. I dislike giving flowers because they barely last a few days before dying. Chocolate seems very impersonal. There’s a million different heart shaped boxes of candy out there, and everybody has particulars about box chocolates. Don’t believe me, just look at any variety box of candy after a couple days. You’ll find a lot of the same things left behind.
Ultimately my failure boils down to a simple fact: I’m not that creative about gifts and the good ones are STUPID expensive.

Pokémon GO is keeping up its habit of introducing holiday themed updates with a Valentine’s Day event. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Pokémon GO ‘s first in-game event of 2017 began February 8 at 7pm and ends at February 15 at 7pm. Among the features are increased candy and the spawning of more “Pink” pokemon.

A Henryetta, Oklahoma shop tried to hold a Valentine’s Day dance to raise money for renovations. Unfortunately, the town has a city ordinance that prohibits dancing within 500 feet of a church. Guess who the neighbors are…

Somebody decided it would be funny to make a Hitler themed Valentine’s card and hand it out at a school function. The school has said that this was, obviously, not a sanctioned incident

Married couple, Annaleis and Neil C live together in Northern California with their pets and egos. Both have a wide variety of interests including animal welfare, video games, comic books, reading, music, Jamaica, podcasting, travel, NASCAR, and other crap. These two started podcasting because they couldn’t seem to get enough of their own voices. Hearing the beautiful sounds made by their mouths, they were inspired to allow everyone to experience the joy, so they began sharing their sweet vocal love with the masses…

Don’t let the name and logo fool you. This is, at its most basic, a couple’s comedy show. Their theme song says it perfectly, “They only talk about themselves, I figure I’d warn ya.” Honestly, I’m ok with that. These two may just sit around talking about “whatever” as a couple, but it works because they’re funny. Considering we do a similar thing on “Mom and Dad Cuss” how could I really have a problem with it. You can’t fake the authenticity of a married couple picking on each other and fighting with the dog’s chew toys. It’s like hanging out with your cool married friends every week.
